Great Britain: Bessemer Saloon Steamboat Company Limited, £50 share, 1873, #1247, mauve. Registered 1872. A paddle steamer with a suspended 'saloon' passenger cabin which was supposed to remain horizontal in rough seas. Designed by engineer Edward James Reed and built by Earle's Shipbuilding Company in Hull, the steamer was not a success. She crashed during trials and on her one and only public voyage in 1875 she again crashed into Calais Pier. The company was liquidated in 1876. UNC.
