Ottoman Empire: Commercial Company of Salonica Limited, 100 shares of £1, 189[5], #0505, signed by Lazare Allatini as director, ornate border, black, mauve underprint, capital reduced by endorsement. The wealthy Allatini family owned a huge industrial complex including brickworks and flour mills in Salonica which still stands but is derelict. They are considered the largest of their type in the orient. The large family house 'Villa Allatini' was built for the family in 1896. It became the refuge for the deposed Sultan in 1909.
