U.S.A.: Santa Rita Copper and Iron Co. (NM), $50 shares, New York 188[95], #1570, mine workers in shaft below title, ornate border, black, printed by American Bank Note Co., revenue stamp on reverse. The oldest operating mine in the US, originally worked by Spanish miners in 1804 and supplying copper for Mexican coinage. The copper deposit itself is said to have been discovered by an Apache Indian in the late 18th century. VF.
