Great Britain: Underground Electric Railways Company of London Ltd., 100 shares of £1, 19[09], #209, blue, American Bank Note Co. printing. Formed by American Charles Yerkes (involved with the formation of the Chicago Tramway system), the company included the Baker Street and Waterloo, the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead, and the Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railways, all deep-level underground lines. The District Railway was also owned by the company, and the lines were gradually extended out to the Home Counties. The company was absorbed by the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933, its lines forming central sections of the modern London Underground. GVF.
