Dunlop was formed in 1896 and changed its name in 1913 to the Parent Pneumatic Tyre Co. and in 1925 to the Parent Trust & Finance Co., and at all times the du Cros family was at its head, led by William Harvey and his third son Sir Arthur Philip. With the crash of Clarence Hatry's companies in 1929, in which Sir Arthur invested heavily, the Parent Trust & Finance faced losses of over £3m.
